13.  My commentary on the two views:  Study the right-hand end of the drawing.

Ussher’s view

a.  This is the traditional view.

b.  It has the advantage of having the Last Supper at the appointed time instead of a day early.

c.  It has the disadvantage that the crucifixion was not until the day after Passover.

d.  It has the disadvantage that Jesus was dead only 39 hours.

e.  It has the advantage that the Passover would not be desecrated by an execution.

f.  It has the disadvantage that the crucifixion was not on the specified day.

Jonah’s view

a.  The very words of Jesus establish this view.  See Matthew 12:40 and Jonah 1:17.

b.  It has the disadvantage of having the Last Supper a day early.

c.  It has the advantage that the crucifixion was on the Passover day.

d.  It has the advantage that Jesus was actually dead more nearly 3 days.

e.  It has the disadvantage that the Passover would be desecrated by an execution, but in this particular case, so what?.

f.   It has the advantage of being on the specified day, the Passover.

All in all, what is most important is not what Ussher or Jonah thinks about this matter but what Jesus Christ thinks about it.
