8.  The Interregnum in Judah 
    
a.  Anstey believes that there is an 11-year Interregnum in the kings of Judah between Amaziah and Uzziah.  Ussher believes that there was no Interregnum in Judah and handles the problem of synchronizing the reigns of the two Kingdoms by saying that Jeroboam II (of the Northern Kingdom) was a viceroy for 11 years during the 16-year reign of Jehoash, king of Israel.  Then, Jeroboam II became sole king for 41 years more.

b.  Ussher’s view is defensible and makes sense.  Ussher’s view requires only 2 gaps (interregnums) for a total of 21 years, while Anstey’s view requires 3 interregnums for a total of 41 years, like this:

c.  Ussher:  Southern Kingdom = no gaps
                   Northern Kingdom =  2 gaps
                             12 years between Jeroboam II and Shallum                              
                               9 years between Pekah and Hosheas

d.  Anstey:  Southern Kingdom = one gap
                             11 years between Amaziah and Uzziah
                   Northern Kingdom = 2 gaps
                             22 years between Jeroboam II and Shallum
                               8 years between Pekah and Hosheas
